Despite the more recent challenges to our economy, Canada is a country of great prosperity and Partners in the Horn of Africa is honoured to work on your behalf to share some of this abundance with efficient community-driven development in Ethiopia. After 14 years working in Ethiopia, we have completed over 270 projects and this year alone we are supporting 26 projects in various sectors. It’s hard to convey the full impact we are having together with your support, but we would like to share three stories in our newsletter on how your donation is changing lives, families and communities in Ethiopia.
Our projects are rooted in our principle for progressive development. 100% of donations go directly to projects. Projects are proposed by the communities themselves, or by the community-based organizations already present and working in these areas, to address urgent unmet needs. Partners’ model requires that communities contribute at least 15% of the project’s total cost and be a part of the project’s design, implementation and ongoing monitoring.
We thank you for your continued commitment to Partners with your donations. We can’t stress enough the impact you are having. Sometimes people think that Partners in the Horn of Africa is well funded by large sponsors and that we don’t need their donation. In fact, over 75% of our donations come from individuals just like you. Our projects are typically of a smaller scale, so every donation of any amount makes a difference. It only takes $200 to directly transform the life of a woman, as Tesfansh Seyum shares in her story. Once a woman has been helped to build a business and paid back her loan, the money goes on to help the next woman and her family.
The latest World Giving Index ranks Canada as the third most generous country in the world in terms of charitable giving, volunteering, and helping a stranger. At Partners, we see this spirit of giving in action every day. Thanks to supporters like you, together we can play a role in assisting individuals, families and communities in Ethiopia to meet their own needs and goals.
Happy Holidays from the staff, board and volunteers at Partners in the Horn of Africa.
