Happy International Women’s Day!
The feature photo shows the young ladies at Laura’s Place graduating from University with Honours! Building their dreams ensures a brighter future for all girls and women in Ethiopia. Congratulations!
Women account for six out of ten of the world’s poorest people and two thirds of them are illiterate. Partners in the Horn of Africa is focused on empowering women in Ethiopia because women and girls are the catalyst for development.
Four out five girls miss 4-5 days a month of school days because of lack of sanitary pads. At Partners we have partnered with Women In Self-Employment (WISE) to produce and distribute reuseable sanitary pads to 10,000 girls each year. Each girl receives 8 pads and 2 panties which will last her for at-least 2 years… enabling thousands of girls to go to school everyday.
“Because of Partners support, I am not ashamed to be a girl. I can come to school everyday” says Tigist, age 13 who attends Ambo Mesk Primary School and is the second top ranking student in Merawi Zone in Gojjam.
